Proven Education Leader
Mrs. Kathy Maness is the Executive Director of Palmetto State Teachers Association. She joined the staff of PSTA in 1993 as the Director of Association Activities. She served as state President of PSTA while teaching third grade at Erwin Elementary in Lancaster County.
Mrs. Maness is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. She attended Winthrop University where she completed coursework for certification in Education Administration.
She is very active in her community. Kathy was first elected as a member of Lexington Town Council in November of 2004 and was recently re-elected for a fourth term. Kathy was the first woman from South Carolina to be elected President of Women in Municipal Government- a constituency group of the National League of Cities. She served two terms as a member of the Board of Directors for the National League of Cities and, in November of 2020, was elected as the President of the National League of Cities.
Kathy was awarded the Administrator of the Year Award by the South Carolina Network for Woman Administrators in Education. In 2014, she received the Exemplary Service to the Teaching Profession Award from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators. Kathy was also selected as a 2015 Education Policy Fellow.
She is married to Amiel Maness and has three children, Rebekah, Patrick and Jonathan and one granddaughter, Olivia.
